Between 2022 and 2023, Betty Rieckmann developed a body of work that investigates the relationship between trauma, memory, and the material traces of healing. Combining autobiographical elements with poetic abstraction, her installations translate experiences of psychological rupture into spaces of reflection and transformation.
At the center of this series lies the question of how light, sound, and fragile materials can embody the processes of recovery — how the remnants of crisis might be reconfigured into forms of care and continuity.
A sound installation captures the recorded voice of a call for help; an IV stand slowly dripping saline solution onto a poem becomes an image of persistence and renewal.
Rieckmann’s approach is both personal and systemic: she treats the body as an archive of affect and the artwork as a site of reorganization — where pain turns into rhythm, and fragility becomes structure.
In this sense, her works move between intimacy and abstraction, inviting the viewer to sense the delicate boundaries between wounding and repair.
