i came form space, 2021
In the series i came from space, Betty Rieckmann traces an imagined return from outer space to Earth — a poetic descent from the technological to the organic, from abstraction to embodiment. The works reflect on what it means to rediscover nature after distance, and how perception shifts when seen through the lens of reflection and light.
The installation Triangular Relationship explores the fragile equilibrium between human, nature, and environment. Rotating, printed mirrors fragment and distort the viewer’s reflection, evoking the instability of identity within a constantly shifting ecological and perceptual field. The mirrored glass impressions of wood act as material translations between organic form and technological surface, between presence and image.
A handwritten poem inscribed on the wall grounds the installation in personal and planetary narrative. It speaks to origins and belonging — to the tension between gravity and transcendence that runs throughout Rieckmann’s practice.
By combining light, reflection, and movement, I Came from Space transforms the scientific gaze into a sensory and emotional experience. It asks how perception itself might return to Earth: how we can reimagine our connection to the natural world in an age defined by distance, mediation, and artificial illumination.
