Reconfigured advertising sign, RGBW LEDs, microcontroller, ambient light sensor
Light Sign is a site-specific light installation that transforms an obsolete commercial display into a poetic field of chromatic rhythm and environmental sensitivity. The work consists of a repurposed signage structure fitted with RGBW LEDs controlled by a microcomputer. A light sensor continuously monitors the surrounding brightness, allowing the piece to automatically adjust its luminosity in response to daylight or other ambient conditions. This adaptive functionality prevents glare and reduces energy consumption, underscoring the work’s ecological awareness.
The color sequences—selected randomly by the system—unfold in a gentle, meditative cadence, shifting subtly across the spectrum. By reimagining an everyday object of urban communication, Light Sign creates a space where the language of commercial display is abstracted into quiet cycles of light and perception. In doing so, the installation reclaims the visual presence of signage as a sensorial and time-based phenomenon rather than a directive.
